Court Maintenance Teams
“New Court Playing Surfaces”- “Courts Maintenance Team” Fellow Members, BOTH Ladies and Gents, “Volunteers are required for the New Courts Maintenance Team”
New Court Surfaces:
We have just spent almost €120,000 re-surfacing 6 Courts (1, 2, 3, and 8, 9, 10). They look great! We want to keep them that way! We need to ensure that we get the best value and the longest life out of them. New Courts (and indeed Old Courts) need to be maintained, on a routine regular basis in order to get optimum performance and length of life from them. This has not been happening in the Club for a number of years now and we need to resurrect this important activity now.
If we don’t, then the new court surfaces will deteriorate within two/three years and we will have “wasted” this money.
“Are you willing to give the Club a half day of your time once every 3 months?”
What’s Involved?
About 12 Teams, consisting of two members each, to carry out Brushing of the Court Surfaces regularly. The brushing will be done with using the CLTC’s Ride-On Lawnmower to tow (drag) a special brush. Training will be provided in how to use this machine properly (so as not to damage the court surface, as “over-enthusiastic” use can cause damage).
This brushing needs to be done on a “Weekly” or “Fortnightly” or “Monthly” basis, depending on the time of the year and the prevailing weather. Courts require more brushing during the Autumn/Winter/Spring than they do during the Summer.
(The Courts Maintenance Committee will decide from time to time how often it needs to be done.)
(Info: If courts are not brushed regularly, algae, moss, etc. start to “grow” on the top layer of sand. This causes this top layer to become hard and prevents proper drainage from taking place. Brushing the courts “agitates” this top layer of sand and keeps it porous.)
Time Involved:
Generally, brushing all the courts will take about 3 hours. It will require two members each time. (We will do a trial first.)
How Often?
Depending on the number of participants, your valuable contribution will be required about once every three months.
“de More de Merrier”:
The more pairs involved in the team the less often any one individual will have to do their stint.
So! Sign-up! Sign-up! Or, be Conscripted! (and dat kud b painful!)
